Strange cat behavior
Written by rachelleroper
Hey, I have a cat that goes outside..when he sees a bird he makes the face like he's about to meow, but instead he makes a wierd clicking noise and his mouth and face twitch. Is this normal, and if so, why is he doing it?

Hi!
My daugther has a cat book and she said that it's the sound the cats use to hunt - to kill. My cat, Smokey does that when he sees a fly; we try to get it it together and he likes it.
Hi Rachelle, this type of see bird reaction goes on at my house frequently. I have two boy kitties that hunt and sometimes bring home rodents, birds, frogs and the occasional dragonfly or snake. They both make that clicking noise and twitch thier faces and their bodies. I think it is just an excitement, anticipation and thrill of the hunt kind of thing. I would definitely call it normal.
