my 1 year old lab woke up with red swollen lower eyelids this morning. Is this just conjunctivitis?

Mo, yes your dog could have conjunctivitis. The usual symptoms include redness, swollen lids, discharge and discomfort. The cause of conjuctivitis can be infections, allergens or enviromental irritants such as a carpet cleaner or some kind of aerosol spray your dog may have come in contact with. The condition is irritating to the dog and usually requires medical attention. If your dog rubs his eyes he may do damage to the eye by scratching it so it is best to have him looked at as soon as possible.
