Danerous or not?

Our neighbors had a Rottweiler and an American Bulldog that mostly lived in the basement and outside with little interaction with kids. The Rottweiler died and the family decided they wanted the 4-year-old American Buldog to become a "house dog" through increased interaction with kids. Should I be worried about my young children being around an Amriecan Bulldog that has had alomst no intercation with kids?

I am a bully breed embassador as with all bully breeds who have had little or no interaction with children,I would be cautious and supervise the interaction carefully.American bulldogs are very loving and love interacting with children due to the energy level.My bulldog is very protective of his (my) children,especially when they are sick.My middle son also has a four year old american bull dog, he just had a baby 2 mos. ago and he is very protective of my granddaughter.When my grand daughter cries he is the first one there to what is wrong,and goes and gets my son or daughter in law.They are very intellegent and more perceptive than people give them credit for.These dogs just need adjustment periods a loving family and yes can be turned into a lazy old house dog,mine is.

You absolutely should be very cautious of any breed of dog that is around kids that has not been properly socialized. Bottom line, dogs are animals and kids are unpredictable. Highly supervised interaction only at this point. Elevate any child that is at face level with the dog and have the owner keep the dog on leash in your yard, not his, for initial meetings.

A good way to help the dog feel comfortable with the kids is for them to hand out some treats and offer toys the dog likes. No tug of war, when the dog wins, it gives him higher status. Hopefully your neihbor is also doing some formal obedience and socializing with the dog as well.
