Good question! There are many great family friendly breeds to choose from. It always best to do your homework on the temperament of any breed you are considering. Another consideration is size. For the larger breeds, the Retrievers (not field bred) are good choices. Mid size good natured dogs include the Sheltie and the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. A couple of smaller outgoing breeds are the Pug and the Border Terrier.

Again, you really need to research the breed and take into consideration where the dog comes from. There can be good and bad in any breed and there are always exceptions to the sterotype.
