Soft Lump on Puppy's Head
Written by kshatters
Hello, We adopted a pointer mix from the shelter just over a week ago. She is about 13 weeks old. She has always had a pointy head on top, but two days ago she developed a soft lump on the top of her skull. It is under the skin and attached to something below. It is about grape sized and very smushy. It does not cause any pain when we feel on it. She is eating well and it does not seem to bother her. Should we be concerned? We have an appointment in 10 days for vaccinations. Should we take her sooner? Thank you for any advice you may have. -brady hatter

Brady, It would be worth a call to your vet to see what they think. If it is soft and of similar shape all the way around, it may be a benign skin tumor of some sort. Sometimes a good bump on the head may cause a small amount of swelling. If your pup is acting fine, eating and drinking and does not appear to be running a fever (warm to the touch, off her food, and lethargic) then you could just watch it until your next visit (unless your vet thinks otherwise).
