To shave or not to shave

My dog Charlie is half black lab/ half golden retriever- basically a really hairy black lab. She's been getting really hot these days and even flops down on the sidewalk in the middle of our runs, which is weird because she's 10 months old and has endless energy. I was thinking about getting her a short buzz cut for the summer... would that help cool her off?

Bongo, shaving her would probably help her cool off as long as it is not too short, dogs can get sunburn.  A really good daily brushing will also help to remove all the extra dead hair and debris that is trapping heat.  If she is laying down in the middle of a run, it is probably too hot for her to go.  Make sure she has plenty of water along the way and try to go before breakfast or before bed when it is cooler.  Have fun!
