My cat suddenly not eating

Hi there

My 3 year old cat suddenly will not her science diet hard food, I can coax her to eat alittle soft food.I took her to the vet he did blood work and urinaylsis checked her mouth found nothing wrong, I have heard of cat's becoming anorexic, what can I do to encourage her to eat. This has been going on for about 2 weeks.

My cat has recently started this too.  I haven't changed food or anything...no new pets, haven't moved....no changes.  I was worried so I went and got some canned food.  He eats it and the vomits it up pretty much immediately after.  I don't know what to do....

The safest thing to do is probably a trip to the vet.  Cats can stop eating for many reasons, several of which can be very serious.  The piece of mind is always worth the expense.  Good luck!

Luckylou, you can try adding small amounts of fish juice like tuna or salmon to small amounts of her food.  You may try a different brand or formulation of the dry food.  Try playing with her, brushing or patting her for 10 or 15 minutes before you try feeding her.  If there is no improvement in the next couple of days, give your vet a call for a recheck.  There maybe something that was not presenting itself at the time of her exam.  Double check for a broken tooth or look under the tongue to make sure she does not have string stuck  (I have seen this and it is easy to miss).  If there is still no medical problem, ask if there is something in the way of medication that will stimulate the apetite.

Another thing to check, the expiration date on the bag of food, or see if they changed the ingredients or the way they make it.  Is there anything different going on in the enviroment that would be stressful for the cat like the loss or addition of another pet or person in the house?  Keep trying to coax her to eat and try not to get anxious about it, she will pick up on that.
