Kittens have colds

Hi. I have a 2 and half month old Himalayan kitten and a 3 and a half month old Siamese kitten. Both kittens are sneezing and at times their eyes running. Is this a cold that will go away? I have some antiobotic from a previous small kitty who was sick, can this be used on them and will it do any good. Is there any over the counter meds I can purchase? Do they need to see a vet? I am sorry for all of the questions but when my adult cats would catch a cold it would go away on it's own and want to do what is needed. Thank you. Kathy

Kathy, your kitties may have an upper respiratory infection that could either be viral or bacterial in nature.  Some do go away on thier own and some do not.  I would not recommend using the old antibiotic you were given because if it is a liquid, chances are the shelf life is two weeks.  If it is a pill, it may not be the proper dose for the size of the kitties.  It would be really helpful to know what they are sick with.  There is no over the counter medication available for kitties in this situation.  They could pass this cold to any other cats in the house, so keep them separated and be sure to wash your hands well after handling them.  It would be a good idea for a vet visit to know just what you are dealing with.  Good luck!
