female kitten after FHO procedure
Written by fla.packerbacker
When our kitten, Tessa, was 4 months old, we were told she would require an FHO hip surgery to fix her broken hip. We were told she acquired a torquing injury of her back right leg. The vet tried to treat a dislocation, but the hip popped out and would not set. The surgery was our only option. The surgery was done 8 months ago and Tessa seems fine. The only quesion I have is did she stay a very small size due to growth plates effected? Or was she going to be a smalll cat anywa? She only weighs 7.4 pounds.

Hi, I am glad to hear Tessa went through the surgery fine. Cats are amazing at healing. My cat had the same procedure at about 10 months of age. He was hit by a car and brought in to the vet as a stray. He too is a small cat. I think that is just the way they were supposed to turn out and genes are probably the biggest factor. I have seen young cats have similar injuries and go on to grow to a good size.
