Cat Is Shedding Excessively - Any Treatment Or Vitamens?

I have a seven year old Persian cat that is shedding excessively this summer.  Are there any know treatments or vitamens that can help the kitty from eventually having bald spots?

It is amazing how much a Persian can shed.  It certainly gets worse when the weather warms up and daylight increases.  If you feel the shedding is excessive it is a good idea to have a physical exam done by the vet.  Excessive shedding can be caused from illness or stress.

Daily brushing with a comb especially for long haired cats is your best bet to try and keep ahead of the shedding.  There are products on the market that advertise they reduce shedding, like Shed Guard, but please check with your vet before giving your cat anything new.

Royal Canin pet food company has available a cat food specifically for Persians.  They have redesigned the shape of the kibble for flat faced cats, adjusted the PH as Persians are prone to urinary crystals and mention the hair and shedding but do not say how it helps.
