Can puppies be around cats before vaccinations done?
Written by sabbysab
Hi Everyone,
It's me again! The neurotic "new" mom to little Daz! He has only had his first round of shots (he's 11 weeks old). I know I am not supposed to take him around other dogs until all his vaccinations are completed or 4 months (is it either or?) but does that go for cats as well? I wanted to take him by my friend's to show him off but our friend has a cat. The cat is up to date on shots, etc. What should I do? If it is too risky then I will wait until the proper time I just wasn't sure if this rule applied to dogs or all animals. I appreciate all your knowledge and help:)

It is probably best to wait until Daz has gotten his next series of shots to socialize with other dogs. It is fine for him to visit at your friends's house. Cats and dogs don't usually get sick from one another except for parasites and fleas. As long as your friend's cat is up to date on a Rabies vaccine and your dog does not snack in the litter box or have fleas, you should be fine. Chances are the kitty will not want much to do with Daz anyway.
