bulldogs and children's medicine

my english bulldog was treated for pneumonia for nearly the first year of his life. after a year of treatment, he stopped exhibiting the extreme symptoms he had during the illness, but he still deals with a runny nose on a daily basis. he is now four and i have seen two different vets in an attempt to rid him of this last symptom with no impact. i even tried feeding him a very small amount of children's benadryl each day which also had no impact. at this point, i have stopped trying and have learned to coexist with the snot. any suggestions?

We have a new English Bulldog puppy (12 weeks old).  When we got him we realize he was very congested and though he had kennel cough.  Upon taking him to the vet we found that he had severe pneumonia.  I would like to know what kinds of treatments you bulldog had for its pneumonia.  I believe it is going to take a long time to clear.  Thank you.

It is difficult to treat symptoms that are not bacterial or allergic in nature. The reason the Benadryl did not help is because a dog's dose is significantly higher than that of a human. Sometimes the way the snout is put together (pushed in) may also be a contributing factor. Unfortunately there is no simple answer. If you have ruled out allergy, infection and sinus problem via endoscopy than unfortunately you may have to coexist with the issue.
