Bird Bath? Why Not Your Bowl?

So my dog has taken a liking to drinking out of the bird bath in our yard, she only seems to drink out of it when shes really exhausted and panting. The thing is is after shes barley seems the have had enough to drink she just lays down and wont drink out of her water bowl. I am mainly concered that the water she is drinking for the bird bath can not be good for her, and question why doesn't have any intrest in her waterbowl which shes alway drank out of. If any one has an idea or knows if there is anything I can do please post, thanks.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll get her a new bowl and see if she likes it better. She's an older dog and its been a new habit of hers that just has drove me curiouse, so thanks again for the input.

NightsDog, dogs can be funny creatures at times.  I really have no idea why she prefers the bird bath to the water bowl.  Some animals actually have a preference to the type of bowl they eat and drink out of like ceramic verse stainless verse plastic.  Dogs will drink when they need to as a rule so I would not be too concerned that she gets a drink from the bird bath and then quits.  You could always freshen up the bird bath more often so it is cleaner drinking water.

The big concerns for contaminated water are parasites like Giardia and Leptospirosis (only present where a wild animal who is infected has urinated in stagnate water) and the bird bath is not usually a high risk place for those things.
