Ragdoll

Overview

The Ragdoll is a large, longhaired cat whose name comes from the cat's ability to go limp and take a nap just about anywhere. This breed originated in North America.

Physical characteristics

Ragdolls are big cats, generally weighing between 15 and 20 pounds. The head is broad, the eyes are oval and always a shade of blue. The body is sturdy and the legs medium to long.

Color

These cats have colored points (face, ears, legs, and tail) on a white to cream or silver background color.

Coat

The coat is long, lush, and thick.

Grooming and care

Brush three to four times weekly. Clean teeth once a week, especially during kittenhood so the cat becomes accustomed to it. Trim toenails weekly and check the ears, cleaning when needed.

Life expectancy (indoors)

15 to 17 years

Temperament

As the name suggests, these are easy-going, placid cats who take their naptime seriously. They are affectionate and quiet.
