Jack Russell Terrier

Overview

The Jack Russell Terrier was developed in the late 1800s by Reverend John Russell in England. He wanted a feisty, energetic hunting dog. The breed split in the US with the Parson Russell Terrier being recognized by the American Kennel Club and the original JRT recognized by the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America and the United Kennel Club.

This is an active, energetic, pushy little dog. He may be too much dog for young children or the elderly. This breed is rarely recommended for a first time dog owner.

Because of their independent nature and strong will, training should begin young and continue through adolescence. If you keep the Jack Russell Terrier's mind busy, he will be less apt to get into trouble.
