Temperament
The Chihuahua has no idea he's a small dog. They won't hesitate to bark at much larger dogs and this can get them into trouble. These dogs are bright, quick, and love to play, however, they are too small and too easily hurt to be a young child's dog.
Activity level
A Chihuahua will enjoy a daily walk, a chance to play in the grass, retrieve a small ball, and chase the birds in the trees. Afterwards, though, he will be just as happy to snuggle with you on the sofa.
Training
Chihuahua puppies should attend a puppy class so they can socialize with other puppies and people. Without socialization during puppyhood, Chihuahuas can become fearful of other dogs as well as new people, and may even become biters. Training can also help curb their tendency to bark at any noise.
Common health problems
- Open fontanel (soft spot on the skull)
